A member of St. Catharine’s Art Association and Haldimand Artworks, and Native of Welland, I have always been an Artist, but did not pursue it as a profession, instead spending my working life in various community service positions. I continued to paint and often hung watercolours in the office and to my delight they frequently sold to clients who viewed them while conducting business.
When I retired in 2016 I was encouraged to bring my talent out of hiding and began exhibiting at several local venues with good success. These included the 2017 and 2018 South Niagara Artist’s Studio Tours, Port Colborne 2018 Art Crawl, and 2017 and 2018 Rose Festival Art Shows (second place in 2018). I also have accepted commissions and sold my work to individual collectors.
One passion of mine is to donate art to causes, in order to assist them in raising funds. My paintings have therefore been given to Shoppers Drug Mart and CIBC Seaway Mall to be raffled off in support of the Mental Health Association and Breast Cancer research in recent years. In addition I have donated a painting to the 9th Welland Boy Scouts for a raffle to assist in raising funding for the group, and also to Epilepsy Niagara for a past Spring Art draw to assist them in raising much needed funds.
My work is wide and varied in nature. Watercolours, oils, acrylics, pen and ink, pastels and charcoal are all within the scope of my portfolio. My paintings tend to the realistic rather than abstract but I have great admiration for all artforms.
For many years it has been my dream to help establish an arts identity in my hometown. Visual Artists of Welland is the culmination of that dream, and with the support and assistance of our wonderful creative community it will continue to grow and thrive.
