Welcome to the Visual Artists of Welland website! We’re glad you’re here. Take some time to look around and meet the artists.

Whether you are an art enthusiast, emerging or established artist, there is a place for you with the VAW!

The Visual Artists of Welland have been busy bees lately! The Board has organized two events for this fall:

The Visual Artists of Welland Gallery Shop at the Seaway Mall has now opened! Over 20 members have their art for sale in this bright comfortable space. Click the image to see a video of the gallery, full of gorgeous artwork by local artists.

The Grand Opening was Thursday, October 1st at 11 a.m. with the Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony. Mayor Frank Campion, Vance Badawey, Member of Parliament, and Mike Belcastro from Seaway Mall were there as the guests of honour, and all said heartwarming and supportive in behalf of the new venture.

Vance Badawey, MP Niagara Centre, offered the VAW members a chance to submit a Christmas card design that would be delivered to each household in the riding of Niagara Centre. Congratulations to Sharon Macsai, whose painting, Winter Warmth, was selected. See it on her Member Page, or on the Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony Event page.

Why not drop into the Gallery Shop and make a day of shopping at the Seaway Mall?

The Gallery Shop will be open until December 30th during the regular Mall hours. To find us, go through the Pizza Pizza Mall entrance and we’re right near Freedom Mobile.

Come join in the fun, and buy and support local.

Beginning on Wednesday, September 16th, twenty-six (26) members participated in the Silver Linings Silent Art Auction community fundraiser at The Black Sheep Lounge and Coffee Roasters, 64 Niagara Street in Welland.

Each artist donated a small original painting for the fundraiser. All bids opened at $50.00, and could increase in $5.00 increments. Once the bid reached $85.00, the painting was considered sold. Two paintings were "max bid" on the first day!

The Silent Art Auction closed at 2 pm on September 27, 2020, and a total of 10 paintings were sold and $585.00 raised for Serenity House/Women’s Place in Welland. A big thanks to the Welland community for supporting local art.

Many thanks go to Lucas Spinosa, owner of The Black Sheep Lounge, for allowing us to use his space, and to all the artists who participated in this worthy cause.

Membership cost is $35.00—September to September

Meeting Dates: Due to Covid 19, the monthly meetings are suspended until further notice.

There are significant opportunities that the VAW is currently exploring for its membership. And for the community—in keeping with our Mission and Vision Statements (see About).

We would like to thank everyone, but especially Board and VAW members, several area local businesses that contributed in any way (please see Sponsors), community members, Mayor Campion and his office, M.P. Vance Badawey, John Clark of MT Bellies, and Keith Cumming of Primeway Group - all who believed in us. It was a fabulous first year! We’re excited about our second year and more things to come.

Thank you,

Deedee Alexandre and Pam Duncan
